2084 is a futuristic take on George Orwell’s classic novel 1984. In this adaptation, individualism and freedom of thought are on the line against a one-party government; players must outsmart the 7-steps to mind control or be deemed obsolete. The structure of the game finds cues from psychiatrist’s Robert Jay Lifton’s studies in brainwashing and manipulation. While dark in theme, the game is sensitively designed to keep playful, yet thrilling and fun. Retrofuturism, Black Mirror, and the Twilight Zone are a few inspirations.
